Xcel Energy presents 765 kV "Power on Midwest" transmission proposal to county; commissioners note routing concerns

The presenters said the 765 kV line would carry an amount of power equivalent to six single-circuit 365 kV lines and that existing tie-in opportunities would use substations.
Board members and County Attorney Glen Petersen raised community concerns about routing through DNR land, avoiding CRP acres, the project's relationship to wind tax credits and environmental questions such as battery disposal. Fordice answered that the project is not dependent on wind energy production and said the proposed transmission "lines are safe to live next to."
