Public Works staff told the commission the 24-inch raw-water transmission main project drew bids well under the engineer's estimate of roughly $1.4 million; the low bid of $968,330 represented major savings, staff said. "Bids came back way under engineer's estimate... it came back at just over $968,000," Public Works Director Kevin Gorman reported.
Commissioners asked what would happen with the approximately $440,000 in estimated savings; staff and finance indicated those savings would be addressed as part of ongoing capital planning and fund management. The contract award passed by voice vote with authorization for the 10% contingency to cover construction-change needs.
City staff said the project will continue as planned with procurement complete and construction to be scheduled with the awarded contractor.
