City staff: BK Parkway pedestrian-safety project stays on track for 2027 construction

Mister Baker, joined by city engineer Andy Brook, gave the board a status update on a federally funded highway‑safety project for BK Parkway and the 2244 intersection. The project uses FHWA funds administered through TxDOT to add off‑street trails, sidewalks and signalization improvements aimed at increasing pedestrian safety and reducing vehicle conflicts.
Baker said the 30% and 60% engineering submittals have been reviewed by TxDOT; the team expects to submit 90% drawings at the end of July and finish 100% drawings by the end of November to enable contract letting in early December. The schedule Baker described would position construction to begin in March 2027 with an approximate six‑month build and anticipated completion by November 2027.
Baker told the board that collaboration with TxDOT eliminated many anticipated retaining walls and that the project remains on schedule. He invited questions; none were raised and the board received the update as informational.
