Generations Park at Boys Ranch named a Texas Lone Star Legacy Park

Aaron Dobson, president of the Texas Recreation and Park Society and director of parks and recreation for the city of Cleburne, presented the society’s Lone Star Legacy Park designation for Generations Park at Boys Ranch to the Bedford City Council. "Generations Park at Boys Ranch is more than a park. It is a defining landmark of the city of Bedford," Dobson said, noting the park’s origins in 1949 and its evolution into a community hub with trails, athletic fields, a disc-golf course and a recreation center operated with the YMCA.

The designation recognizes parks at least 50 years old that have an enduring impact on their communities. Mayor (speaker S1) thanked volunteers and local historians who supplied support materials for the nomination, naming Dane Martin and George Campbell for their letters and longtime stewardship. The council invited the named volunteers forward and presented a city challenge coin in recognition of their contributions to the park’s preservation and the city’s history.

City staff emphasized that the park pairs historic elements with modern amenities and serves as a site for recurring community events such as Fourth Fest and Beats and Eats. The recognition is ceremonial and celebrates the park’s historical and civic value; no formal action or funding was tied to the presentation.
