Council approves park shade project, soccer field improvements and a long-term BASA lease

On related park work, council authorized an interlocal contract with Grand Landscapes and Athletics for leveling, sod replacement and a new irrigation system for the Stormy Jones Soccer Complex. The total project cost is $220,000; Mesa will contribute $80,000 and the city’s portion is $140,000 to be funded from 2019 general obligation taxable bonds.
Council also approved amending the lease with the Bedford Eula Soccer Association (BASA) to extend the initial term to 10 years with an optional five-year renewal, enabling Mesa’s $80,000 investment in the fields; terms keep the city responsible for field maintenance, while Mesa provides equipment and a per-player fee structure that includes $15 per pay-per-player and remitting 10% of gross revenues from camps or clinics. The consent agenda passed unanimously following a motion and second.
