The Amherst City Council approved an emergency ordinance authorizing the safety service director to purchase an Altec DB41B hydraulic derrick for the electric department and assigned it Ordinance O 26 18.
Mayor (addressing the council) said the item was particularly urgent: "We've been informed there's actually 1 of these setting on their lot, and we can have it by the end of the week if we pass this tonight." After a motion to suspend the three‑reading rule and a second, council adopted the ordinance on first reading by a unanimous roll-call vote, 6 to 0.
Council members did not propose amendments during the meeting. The mayor framed the purchase as time-sensitive equipment procurement for the electric department, which the emergency adoption allows to proceed without delay.
