Staff proposes eliminating off‑street parking requirement for 6th Street historic corridor

Staff cited roughly 200 on‑street parallel spaces along the corridor and reported outreach to merchants and the neighborhood committee that found majority support. The code change would align parking rules for the corridor with downtown central‑business‑district standards and would reduce the number of nonconforming status issues that can hinder rebuilding historic properties.
Council asked follow-up questions about potential unintended consequences and asked staff to bring the proposal to the Planning & Zoning Commission for additional review; staff said departments including Public Works and Traffic had reviewed the concept and supported further evaluation.
