Board orders demolition for property at 1218 Matador Street, citing public nuisance

Inspector Terry Dollar told the board that property at 1218 Matador Street has been vacant with utilities inactive since 2017, showed photos indicating a structure fire and interior dilapidation, and that staff considers repair unreasonable. "At this time, the staff recommends a finding that the property is a public nuisance and that it is a hazard to the public health, safety, and welfare and repair of the structure would be unreasonable and order the owner, to demolish or appeal the order to district court within 30 days," Dollar said.
After no public speakers came forward, the board approved a motion (mover Mr. McNeil, second Mr. Turner) to order the owner to demolish or appeal the order to district court within 30 days. The motion passed by roll call and the board noted the owner had reported the cost to repair was prohibitive; staff said the owner is in nursing care and the daughter had been informed of the demolition recommendation.
