The Warrenton City Commission voted to award a professional services contract to Lower Columbia Engineering for an Alder Creek drainage assessment not to exceed $75,000. Rock Hagland, operations manager filling in for the director, told the commission that the firm “received the highest final score and was selected as the top ranked firm” following a request for qualifications and outlined a scope including field investigations, review of existing studies, sediment valuation and collection of community testimony.
Engineer's Robert Bessler said the initial focus for field investigation is roughly a 390‑acre catchment near downtown: “390 acres was the size that came off of that initial west…analysis,” he said, adding the study could be expanded if needed. During discussion a resident raised concerns that nearby tide gates are leaking and that properties at the upper reaches of Alder Creek have experienced lowland flooding in recent years; staff said outreach (for example door hangers) would be used when fieldwork required contacting or visiting private property. The commission moved to award the contract and approved it.
