Warrenton harbormaster outlines marina maintenance, Connect Oregon prospects

Harbor master Jessica (surname withheld) briefed the budget committee on marina operations, capital projects and a grant strategy for dock infrastructure.
Jessica reported a multi-year approach to dock repairs and said pilings had suffered significant corrosion; the marina plans a pilot of four pilings with varying zinc-anode installations to evaluate long-term corrosion protection. "We're going to be trialing probably 4 piles this year with 2 or 3 zinc anodes of different sizes, and testing how thick the pile metal is now and then again in a year," the harbormaster said.
Staff also flagged a state funding change. The harbor master said House Bill 1845 reduced matching requirements for state Connect Oregon grants and allowed the city to adjust its request: "House bill 1845 passed, which reduced our matching funds. So instead of asking for $2,000,000, we changed our ask to $2,500,000 from Connect Oregon," she said, noting this reduced the city's required contribution to the capital project.
The harbormaster said dock construction and long-term maintenance remain priorities and that the marina is pursuing grants and adjusting its capital-reserve strategy to stretch existing funds over a 10-year dock-renovation plan.
