The Warrenton warrants and budget committee voted to create a standing subcommittee charged with administering community-event grants and business appreciation awards. The motion was moved and seconded and passed unanimously on May 10.
The committee defined the subcommittees scope as reviewing grant applications, allocating community event funds (the budget shows $13,000 for community event grants) and overseeing business awards (budget about $800). Members of the budget committee and public members will be appointed by the mayor; the final scope will be approved by the full commission.
Committee members said the appointment should occur no later than mid-June so the subcommittee can be ready for the grants process in July. One committee member described last years process as taking about 30 minutes to review applications and allocate funds, and staff said they will publish the grant opportunity publicly.
The motion passed unanimously; staff will return with appointment details and the scope document for commission approval.
