City to submit two SCA grant applications for Jefferson and Washington projects

A staff member told the Vernonia City Council the city will submit two SCA applications for Jefferson Avenue and Washington Avenue, projects designed to add sidewalks, ADA ramps and full curb-and-gutter to problem segments. “So these put these 2 there’s 250,000 available. You know, these these 2 projects come in, just over 200,000,” the staff member said when describing the estimates and the SCA cap.
The Jefferson scope emphasizes approach upgrades and sidewalk repairs between the market and the post office, while Washington would add full curb and a proper 24-foot access into the flood-buyout parking area, extend continuous sidewalk to North Street and include bollards to limit informal vehicle access. Councilors asked staff to refine Washington designs — including east-side sidewalk options and ADA ramps — so the two projects fit the SCA preference for one-to-two larger, multimodal projects rather than many small repaving entries. Staff will update engineering estimates and file the SCA portal submission in the current open cycle.
