Chief reports October patrols, traffic focus ahead of holiday shopping

The city's chief opened the public-safety update by telling the council October was a "pretty good month overall," with no major calls for service reported. He said deputies recorded 16 crashes in October, including four hit-and-runs and five crashes concentrated in the Walmart parking lot, and reported that deputies completed 22 extra patrols and made 43 traffic stops.
The chief said the department will run visible traffic-enforcement missions on the Friday after Thanksgiving and on December 12, focusing enforcement around large retail parking areas. "So that's gonna be Friday, December 12, and, primarily gonna focus on traffic type stuff on that day," he said. Council members asked about a frequently run red light at a specific intersection; the chief said he would ensure staff look into it.
The mayor and council also noted the city's upcoming toy drive on Saturday, November 29, and the chief said department personnel will attend the tree lighting, while other deputies may staff the toy-drive mission and retail-area operations.
