Study maps show most of Wood Village outside five-minute drive time; city eyes new station to cut response times
Summary
City Manager Greg Dirks presented consultant heat maps indicating much of Wood Village lies beyond a five-minute drive time from existing stations; the study recommends adding a station between Wood Village and Fairview to bring the city within a five-minute travel window and improve regional reliability.

Greg Dirks used consultant heat maps to show Wood Village’s call density and travel-time gaps. He said the consultant’s placement of a station between Wood Village and Fairview would place the city inside a five-minute drive-time band and reduce the number of external responses into Wood Village.
Dirks explained the operational benefit: closer stations reduce travel time and free neighboring stations to respond elsewhere, increasing overall system reliability. "So all of Wood Village is now covered in less than 5 minutes" was how Dirks summarized the modeled effect of a new station in the study area, while noting station siting is not final and the map points were illustrative.
