Benbrook approves participation in Tarrant County 2026 HOME program with 25% city match

Public Service Director Bennett Hall presented the proposed resolution for Benbrook to participate in Tarrant County’s 2026 HOME program, which is administered by Tarrant County under HUD oversight. Hall said the city’s participation includes a 25% local cost share; Tarrant County’s maximum assistance per home is $24,000. Hall described eligibility rules: the assisted unit must be owner-occupied for at least one year, not be a mobile home or duplex or in a flood zone, have clear title, and meet household income limits (one-person household limit $59,750 up to $112,700 for an eight-person household).
Hall noted the city typically sees one home completed per year under the county program but that eligibility often fails due to income limits. “So, staff recommends the city council approve the resolution to participate in Tarrant County's 2026 HOME program and approve the proposed funding level,” Hall said. Council member Tyner moved to approve the resolution, the motion was seconded and carried unanimously.
