Benbrook council accepts finance report showing $7.6 million surplus through March

Benbrook Mayor Jason Ward presided as Finance Director Overgaard presented the city’s finance report for the fiscal year through March 31, 2026. Overgaard told the council that general fund fiscal year-to-date revenues were $21,712,505 (81.9% of budget) and expenditures were $14,087,982 (51.9% of budget), leaving revenues exceeding expenditures by $7,624,523.
Overgaard provided a breakdown of March receipts, including property tax ($232,032), franchise tax ($894,003), permits and fees ($55,093), fines ($49,861), charges for services ($119,829), interest ($116,822.22) and sales tax ($365,531); year-to-date sales tax was $2,405,230, a 7.6% increase from the prior year through March. “Fiscal year to date revenues exceeding expenditures by $7,624,523,” Overgaard said. Council member Mackey moved to accept the finance report; the motion was seconded and carried unanimously. The council took no additional action on the item.
