City staff recommended replacing aging pickup trucks used by Public Works and Parts departments and requested approval to purchase four Ford pickup trucks from 5 Star Ford through the BuyBoard cooperative for $239,966.74, funded from the Capital Asset Replacement Fund. Staff described vehicle specifications (F-350 and F-250 configurations with flatbeds, toolboxes, headache racks and safety lighting) and explained the decision to choose gasoline engines over diesel because diesel models were approximately $11,000 more per vehicle and carry higher maintenance and emissions control costs.
Council members asked about disposition of replaced vehicles (staff said they typically go to auction) and delivery timing (vehicles were on the lot as of last week; if not available they would be ordered with an estimated lead time of a couple of weeks). A council member moved to approve the purchase as presented; the motion was seconded and carried unanimously.
