Council approves surplus of SWAT helmets for Bay City ISD Police

The council approved declaring seven city SWAT helmets as surplus and authorized staff to transfer them to the Bay City ISD Police Department.
Detective Dan Shook explained the surplus resulted from a prior grant purchase of new helmets and that transferring the older helmets benefits the school police. "With this replacement of those helmets, this would then declare the remaining 7 helmets as surplus," Shook said. He also noted a reciprocal equipment benefit: the school police provided a $5,000 retail shield to the city as part of a mutual support arrangement.
Council members moved, seconded and approved the surplus declaration; staff said the exchange strengthens partnership and ensures equipment is used effectively.
