The Balch Springs Industrial and Economic Development Corporation voted March 16 to approve a marketing sponsorship of up to $2,100 for the Leadership Southwest (Best Southwest) tour scheduled to be hosted in Balch Springs in June.
Economic development staff described the sponsorship as an advertising and promotional use of budgeted funds and said the request was to split the $2,100 evenly with the Type B EDC. Staff said the tour brings a class of 20–30 economic development professionals, board members and brokers to showcase projects in member cities. "It's an opportunity to network amongst your economic development peers," staff said during the presentation.
A motion to approve the sponsorship was moved and seconded and the board voted in favor. The clerk later recorded the motion as passed by Ivan Guell, Felicia Riddick, Wendell Longardner, Will Toba and Natasha King. Staff said the sponsorship will be funded from advertising and promotional budget lines and that a Best Southwest representative could not attend the meeting.
