The Balch Springs Community and Economic Development Corporation approved a marketing sponsorship of Leadership Southwest (LSW) not to exceed $2,100 to promote Balch Springs in the Best Southwest partnership.
Staff explained the sponsorship funds a one-day class visit that typically includes breakfast, presentations, a bus tour of local development highlights and a small reception at Veterans Park. "This will be the 3rd year that we've sponsored Leadership Southwest to have a class in Balch Springs," said the Community Experience Department representative, who described tour stops including City Hall, Luki Park and historic Balch Springs spring.
Board members asked logistical questions about class locations and competitiveness; staff said classes rotate among Best Southwest cities such as Duncanville, DeSoto and Cedar Hill and that class sizes generally range from about 40 to 50 participants. The secretary called the roll for the sponsorship vote; each named board member voted yes and the motion passed.
Staff noted the sponsorship is budgeted in the advertising/promotions line item and offered to circulate the LSW application to board members interested in participating in future classes.
