The mayor and the police chief each spoke in tribute, noting Lane took his oath on March 24, 1976, mentored generations of officers and served under multiple chiefs and mayors. "There's no way to calculate the number of lives that he has touched throughout his career," the Police Chief said as he presented a plaque to Lane. Council members and attendees had several minutes to offer personal congratulations before the meeting resumed.
