Council package advances to solicit bids for 2026 road program, includes downtown electrical work

The mayor said the package covers roads, two downtown parking lots and decorative sidewalks near Patriot's Park. He described a funding split that uses the regular 201 account, $700,000 from the street tax, and approximately $110,000 from the electric fund to place overhead wires underground along a section by Patriot's Park. The mayor said engineering dollars are included though not yet allocated; the plan is to stagger work around railroad bridge closures to reduce traffic impacts.
Following a motion and second, the committee approved forwarding 26-17 to the council floor with urgency by a 6–0 vote. The safety-service director will proceed with solicitation and, after bid opening, will award to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder consistent with the ordinance.
