Amarillo council approves interlocal allowing AISD to operate AmTech digital signs

Council approved an interlocal agreement with Amarillo Independent School District to allow AmTech’s existing digital displays to be turned on at an effective 275-square-foot measurement that discounts the surrounding black border. City staff explained the signs were originally installed in 2021 and exceed current code size limits, but a measurement adjustment and operational conditions would permit activation without a long variance process.
Deidra Parish, superintendent of Amarillo ISD, told council she has been in the role one year and emphasized the partnership between the city and AISD. "We, as a city and a school district, are interdependent," Parish said, noting AmTech’s 26 pathways and workforce connections with Amarillo College, Pantex and Bell Helicopter. Council approved the interlocal and asked staff to coordinate on safety measures, lighting, and timing for operations.
