Cedar Hill moves forward with Legacy Dog Park on leased Trinity Church land; groundbreaking set for May 12

The city manager presented a contract with Wirlik's Design for the construction of the Legacy Dog Park, which will be developed on 3.5 acres leased long-term from Trinity Church at no annual rent. The plan calls for two large and two small dog areas to allow sections of turf to rest and recover, a four-foot concrete sidewalk connection from Pleasant Run to the park, a one-foot perimeter concrete strip to prevent animals from escaping under the fence, 20 solar lights (requested by church leadership), two covered patios with lighting, irrigation and electrical for a pavilion, and a Legacy Dog Park sign to be placed at the corner near Pleasant Run.
"We're really grateful for the partnership," the city manager said, noting the lease removes the property-purchase cost and that the development costs are primarily construction-related. The manager said the city hopes to hold a groundbreaking on May 12 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a lunch with Trinity Church leadership.
When asked why the design includes two large and two small areas, staff explained the arrangement allows portions of the park to be closed for recovery while others remain open. The project was described as part of the council’s strategic plan and parks master plan; no formal contract approval vote took place at the briefing.
The council will review the contract and anticipate a public groundbreaking event if the contract proceeds through the regular agenda.
