Joe Cormier, who spoke on his own behalf, criticized county commissioners' handling of audit and budget items and said he was wary of promises about data centers. "Before you jump on that bandwagon, maybe I can interest you in some other priorities: living wages for support staff, health care that's affordable for them and their families, retirement with a pension to secure their future," Cormier said. He also described an Amazon presentation that offered optimistic job projections but few details and cautioned the board not to accept unverified claims as guarantees for schools or the community.
Steve Krause, another public commenter introduced by the board, said his concern was improving facilities and "the front porch" and urged county leadership to allocate existing funds to support the schools rather than asking the school system to cut programs. "I want them to give us the money," Krause said, urging county-level accountability for funding improvements.
