The Brownsburg Police Department is pursuing multiple recruitment tracks, the chief told the commission. For CSI recruitment the department received 79 pre‑applications, invited seven candidates to interviews and had two candidates advance to background checks; forensics analyst recruitment has 27 pre‑applications and interviews set for April 28. The chief said sworn recruitment counts included 203 pre‑applications (8 lateral, 11 certified, 163 non‑experienced) with written and physical agility testing scheduled for April 25 and oral interviews May 5–6.
The chief announced that Matt Birx completed the conditions of a conditional offer and "has a swearing date for April 20" at the Brownsburg Police Department courtroom. Separately, the commission approved a reserve officer recruitment plan aimed at bringing already‑certified individuals into a reserve division (the chief described adding several reserve positions to reach a sustainable number). Commissioners voted to approve the reserve plan after motion and second.
Commission discussion also covered interview panel composition, training schedules and how new hires will move the department toward its authorized staffing level of 62 sworn officers.
