Commissioners honor Fiesta events with multiple proclamations, urge safe celebration

Bexar County Commissioners Court used much of its April 14 agenda to present proclamations recognizing major Fiesta events and related community observances.
The court proclaimed April 16–26, 2026 as Fiesta Week and recognized specific events including the 135th Battle of Flowers Parade (April 24), the 78th Fiesta Flambeau night parade (April 25), Night in Old San Antonio (NIOSA), Coronation and the 40th Taste of New Orleans. Speakers from parade and event associations described lineups, volunteer efforts, national recognition and expected attendance; Battle of Flowers' president said the parade would feature 200 entries and 10,000 participants, and Flambeau's president cited floats (63), national bands and televised bilingual coverage.
The court also recognized Law Week and National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, and declared April Alcohol Awareness Month; a University Hospital representative and public-safety officials highlighted increased alcohol-related crashes during Fiesta and urged responsible celebration and safe-ride planning.
Commissioners signed the proclamations and invited representatives from the organizations to accept them. The ceremonial item emphasized community partnerships between county agencies, event organizers and public-safety providers to support large-scale festivities during Fiesta.
