Commissioners approve condemnation award and budget amendment for 4715 Fredericksburg Road

Dan Curry, Director of Facilities Management, briefed the court on a proposed acquisition related to property at 4715 Fredericksburg Road and asked for three actions: acknowledgement of the final award from condemnation, authorization for staff and the county manager to deposit the award and proceed with ownership transfer, and approval of a budget amendment to fund the project.

Curry said the process had been cooperative with the property owner and that staff had discussed consolidating existing precinct leases and county functions into the new facility. He described expected occupants including Precinct 2 offices, a constable, a justice of the peace satellite, and possible space for the tax office collector. "We haven't determined exactly what the functions going into this building besides the ones that we know that are collapsing existing leases," Curry said, adding that further allocations would be worked out with the court.

Commissioners made separate motions to approve each requested action; all three motions passed on voice votes. Commissioners discussed potential consolidation and cost-saving opportunities from relocating offices into a county-owned facility and asked staff for additional analysis on how other county departments might use any remaining square footage to reduce operating lease costs.

The court approved the budget amendment and directed staff to proceed with deposit and transfer tasks consistent with legal counsel's advice. Next steps include preparation of documents to execute the transfer and follow-up work to analyze consolidation benefits and lease savings for the court's review.
