Melanie (presenter) described an indoor, UIL‑certified 8‑lane competition pool with retractable bleachers, an outdoor water park with two slides and party rooms, and garage‑style roll‑up doors to allow open‑air operation. The facility is sited directly behind the civic center with multiple entrances and plans for roughly 100 parking spaces and additional green space that could be added to increase parking later.
On project costs, the team said construction pricing has come in at a little over $17 million but that design reductions and scope changes brought that number down to about $16.16 million; financing of $14 million is already approved, and the remaining roughly $2.2 million will be raised through a capital campaign, naming opportunities and corporate sponsorships. Melanie noted the city and county are funding partners along with the YMCA and the Bay City CDC: "We are trying to raise that last 2,200,000. We've hired [a capital campaign firm] and they're reaching out to foundations and corporations," she said. Staff said a groundbreaking is likely in July once a few final city signatures are in place and that they have secured at least one local $50,000 pledge from a business.
