Bee Cave library and Friends group honor five seniors for volunteer service

The Bee Cave Public Library and the Friends of the Library presented scholarships to five graduating teen volunteers at the May 12 council meeting.
Melissa Slaughter, the library's public services manager, introduced the volunteers and said the five seniors had a combined total of volunteer hours initially stated as 529 and subsequently corrected to 520. "For those of you who don't know me, my name is Melissa Slaughter, and I'm the public services manager at the library," she said. Stephanie Shelton, the teen volunteer coordinator, then summarized each student's hours and post-graduation plans, naming Sienna Ward (McGill University), two students attending UT Austin and others with science-focused majors.
Mayor King and council members offered congratulations and wished the seniors well. The presentation highlighted the library's teen advisory board and the Friends group's role in funding scholarships.
