EDC authorizes up to $175,000 for Oak Ridge Park playground, asks staff to negotiate

Staff presented a design and bid for a new playground at Oak Ridge Park and told the board that bids for Oak Ridge came back higher than the $175,000 placeholder listed on the agenda — roughly $183,000 was discussed. Staff recommended the board authorize the $175,000 published amount so the project can move forward and staff can attempt to negotiate with the vendor for the difference or return to the board to approve additional funding if necessary.
Staff explained, “this proposal would be for a 183,000, and your agenda reads 175. So as we're short, I guess 8,000… Staff recommendation would be to proceed with the 175, and maybe we go back and renegotiate with the vendor.” The board discussed using residual funds from the Godberry project but were advised that, because of Open Meetings Act/public notice and agenda language, they could not exceed the published $175,000 without republishing; several members asked staff to pursue negotiations and alternative internal transfers.
A motion to approve funding for Oak Ridge Park playground not to exceed $175,000 was made and passed by roll call. Staff said it will pursue negotiations with the vendor and report back if an additional appropriation is required.
