Mayor Mike McQuiston read a proclamation designating April as National Safe Digging Month and thanked Atmos for its community partnership. McQuiston said the proclamation highlights the importance of protecting underground utilities and minimizing service interruptions.
"This proclamation is for National Safe Digging Month," McQuiston said, noting that "more than 50% of natural gas leaks and damages are due to digging before underground lines have been located." He urged residents to call 811 before digging projects to protect pipelines and other subterranean utilities. A representative introduced as Pam from Atmos accepted the proclamation and thanked the council for the recognition.
The mayor and staff framed the outreach as a public‑safety and infrastructure protection measure. No formal action was required; the proclamation is primarily an awareness step ahead of planned spring excavation and landscaping projects.
