Court authorizes 10 temporary hires to speed county records preservation

The court approved use of preservation funds to hire 10 temporary employees for approximately 16 weeks to label and verify tens of thousands of county records to accelerate digitization and indexing.
County Clerk Kemp asked permission to use the records management and preservation fund to hire 10 temporary employees for roughly 16 weeks to label and verify records. Kemp said the project will cover 86,200 civil files, 46,000 mental‑health files, 52,000 probate files and 17,000 miscellaneous files and described the work as labor‑intensive and necessary to move preservation projects forward.
A commissioner moved to approve and the court adopted the request by unanimous voice vote 4–0. Kemp said this project is an eligible use of the preservation fund and will expedite indexing and imaging for permanent retention.
Staff will supervise temporary employees and report progress to the County Clerk’s Office and commissioners.
