Court approves County Clerk’s 2027 records preservation plan; no budget impact announced

County Clerk Kemp presented the county’s 2027 preservation and restoration plan, outlining recent projects and the next set of preservation targets for property, criminal, civil and probate records. Kemp said recently completed projects included digitization, cleaning, decalcification and encapsulation of records for permanent retention and that materials are indexed in the county records‑management database.
Kemp clarified funding: the preservation work is paid from the county’s records preservation fund and carries no impact to the general fund. The court opened a public hearing on the plan, heard no speakers, and approved the preservation plan by unanimous voice vote 4–0. Kemp noted preserved records are viewable in the lobby exhibit binders and confirmed the county will continue indexing and imaging records for long‑term access.
The court also approved a related request to use the preservation fund to hire temporary staff to assist with a large labeling and verification project (see related article).
