Council sets minimum price and requests sheriff conduct sale of tax-lien property at 716 East Main Street
Summary
Council approved a resolution to offer a tax-foreclosed property at 716 East Main Street for resale with a minimum sale price of $50,000 to cover demolition and back taxes; staff said city mechanics/demolition liens put the city first in line and that other taxing entities would be made whole from sale proceeds.

Council adopted Resolution No. 25-2026 to offer for resale the property at 716 East Main Street, acquired through tax foreclosure, and requested the sheriff to conduct the sale per Texas Property Tax Code with a minimum bid set at $50,000 to cover the city’s demolition/mechanics lien and back taxes. Staff explained the property owner voluntarily demolished the structure and the city placed a mechanics lien for demolition costs; because of that lien, the city would have first right to proceeds ahead of other taxing entities in order to recoup costs.
Council discussed whether the sale proceeds would make other taxing entities whole and staff confirmed that the county, school district and college claims would be paid in order. The council moved and seconded the resolution and voted unanimously to approve the minimum sale price and request for sheriff-conducted sale.
Next steps: staff will notify the sheriff and proceed with resale under section 35.04 of the Property Tax Code.
