Jean Moss, speaking on behalf of senior citizens living at the Buena Vista apartment complex on the loop, told the council the property has been sold multiple times and is poorly maintained. Moss said some third‑floor residents who use wheelchairs cannot exit their buildings because elevators do not work and that senior residents were left standing in water without maintenance assistance during a flooding incident. She said the property now plans to rent to tenants 18 and older and that new rents of about $1,374 per month would be unaffordable to many current elderly tenants who rely on city housing assistance.
Moss asked the council to take steps to ensure safe, suitable housing for seniors who have long ties to Cleburne. Mayor Kane thanked Moss for bringing the issue to the council’s attention; no formal action was taken at the meeting, but the comment was recorded during public comment.
