Council approves abandonment of an 8‑foot utility easement at 1801 Sudbury Drive

Kent Connor, the city’s assistant director of public works, presented item 8.1 seeking abandonment of an eight‑foot utility easement on Lot 1, Block M of Belle Meadows Phase 4 (commonly known as 1801 Sudbury Drive). Connor said the applicant provided required documentation and letters from franchise utilities and that existing utility infrastructure runs from the front or side of the property, leaving no anticipated future need for the easement in that location.
After council questions about the location of utilities, Councilmember Derek Weathers moved to approve the abandonment and the council voted unanimously to grant it. Connor explained the applicant wishes to install a swimming pool that otherwise would encroach on the easement; staff and utilities reviewed the site and supported the abandonment.
