Commission recommends joint public hearing on proposed Charity Bingo Hall at 1033 Dixie Drive

The Clute Planning & Zoning Commission voted March 19 to recommend that City Council hold a joint public hearing on a Specific Use Permit (SUP) for a proposed Charity Bingo Hall at 1033 Dixie Drive, Suite C. The hearing was scheduled for Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 7 p.m., after the commission reviewed the applicant’s site plans and operations.

Applicant Jordan Terry, who said he would be the sole owner, described plans to occupy an approximately 11,000-square-foot space that currently contains a church in part of the suite and to consolidate the area for bingo use if the church agrees to relocate within the building. “My name is Jordan Terry. I will be the sole owner of the vault, providing the space for the charities to come and conduct the bingo,” Terry said when introducing the proposal. He told the commission he expects typical crowds of about 150–200 people on busy nights and said on-site security would monitor patron departures.

Staff told the commission that the proposed use requires an SUP within the current commercial zoning and recommended proceeding to a joint public hearing so council can make the final decision. Commissioners raised questions about suite labeling, fire/safety compliance and whether the building owner (referred to in the record as Mr. Berry) will complete a firewall and build-out to meet code; the applicant responded that the owner has agreed to accommodate required changes. The commission advanced the recommendation by voice vote with no recorded opposition. The item will return to council for a formal hearing on April 23, 2026.
