The City of Cleburne council unanimously approved a resolution declaring the official results of the May 2, 2026 general election and directed staff to prepare for a June 13 runoff for mayor.
City staff explained the canvass process under Chapter 67 of the election code and reported no discrepancies after two councilmembers served as the appointed canvassing authority. "This resolution constitutes the declaration of the official results of the election," staff told the council while presenting the returns. The presentation listed Mark Wiecky as the winner for the District 1 council seat and Diana Grimes Weaver as the winner for the District 4 seat. No mayoral candidate received more than 50%, prompting the runoff.
The council voted to accept the canvass and make the results official. Mayor Scott Kane asked staff to publicize early-voting and election-day times and polling locations once they were finalized. An induction ceremony for new council members was scheduled for the evening of June 25, and the city is planning a runoff election on June 13 for the mayoral contest.
