District officials highlight staffing, assessment readiness and community events ahead of school year

Several district administrators provided updates on preparations for the upcoming school year. Dr. Kachina said about 140 elementary teachers participated in Bridges math professional development and said iRead results will be shared next month but are encouraging for second- and third-grade performance. Kindergarten kickoffs and open houses are scheduled in August.
Ms. Ramirez highlighted growth in Advanced Placement and dual-credit participation, reporting a year-over-year increase of 152 AP exams taken and noting 519 more students earning 3+ exams over five years; she estimated approximately $186,000 in family savings from AP participation and cited roughly $11,000,000 in potential future college tuition savings tied to dual-credit enrollment. Mrs. Pascas reported the district earned an RDA (Results Driven Accountability) level 1 "meets requirements" rating for special education compliance. Assistant Superintendent Gene Fermi and CHRO Mr. Kielo thanked staff for summer preparation and noted more than 20 newly hired teachers; the new teacher academy is scheduled Aug. 3–5.
