Council hears explanation for recent drop in water-accounting efficiency

Dave (S6), the online public-works staff member who addressed the meeting, said crews recently flushed a new water line and that meter-reading schedule changes can affect calculated efficiency: “We did do a bunch of flushing on the new waterline,” he said. He told council staff were re-reading meters and would provide updated numbers; if the efficiency remains in the low eighties, he said the city would engage leak detection services.
Separately, staff noted seasonal infiltration can increase wastewater flow figures and that the plant’s internal flow meters have had issues. Councilors asked residents to report visible water in the street so staff can inspect for leaks.
