City staff outlines plan to meet EPA lead-lateral deadline by 2037

Staff told the board the city has budgeted for private lead-lateral replacement over the coming years to align with the EPA's stated deadline of 2037.
During the water-project section of the CIP review, staff noted the city is identifying lead laterals and has budgeted to meet the EPA timeline. "We want to meet the EPA's deadline of replacing all lead laterals by 2037," staff said, and indicated that both a policy and revised ordinance will come to the August 4 GGF meeting for additional discussion. Staff also described a Westside Main Loop project to increase system redundancy and a planned generator platform and driveway at the water treatment plant to support maintenance and resiliency.
Board members asked for sizing and cost clarifications during the discussion; staff said some projects are placeholders or design-phase estimates and will be refined in future meetings.
