Residents urge Board to pause Vantage permits, cite groundwater risks

Two residents used the public comment period to press the Board of Public Works to stop advancing approvals tied to the Vantage development until state regulatory reviews and utility plans are clarified.
At the podium, Tracy Finch said the developer was already using private wells near homes and that that practice threatened the shared water table. "This is not hypothetical. It's a threat to the stability and safety of our shared water resources," Finch said, urging the board to deny permits that would expand well use. Finch also tied local approvals to uncertainty over a Public Service Commission review and an Oracle lawsuit, saying the development’s timeline and approval veil are unstable.
Another resident who gave an address and spoke during public comment said elected officials should not issue occupancy permits if power and water are not in place. "There's no way you can possibly be considering giving them an occupancy permit if they don't have power and water," the speaker said, and pressed the board to demand answers about current wastewater handling and diesel-generator use. Both commenters called on regulators such as the PSC and DNR to act and for the city to prioritize resident water protection over project advancement.
The board did not take immediate action during the meeting; public comment was received before the CIP discussion and will remain part of the record for staff and aldermen to consider as related infrastructure projects and permits move forward.
