The Calvert County Board of Education confirmed two administrative appointments on May 21, approving Katie Dean as assistant principal at Sunderland Elementary and Sabrina Bergen as director of student services. Doctor Newsome recommended both candidates, citing Dean’s prior experience as dean at Barstow Elementary and Bergen’s background in instructional technology, school leadership, and mathematics coordination.
"I am sincerely grateful for this incredible opportunity and for the confidence you have placed in me," Katie Dean said after the board vote. The board approved Dean’s appointment 4–0. Doctor Newsome then introduced Sabrina Bergen; after the board’s unanimous approval, Bergen said she is committed to strengthening equitable, inclusive student services across the district and looks forward to collaborating with students, families and staff.
Both appointments were moved, seconded, and passed without recorded opposition. The hires will take effect as stipulated by district personnel procedures and were recognized by trustees and attendees at the meeting.
