The Calvert County Board of Education approved a grant-funded purchase of a 2026 Ford Transit cargo van to support Head Start operations, awarding the purchase to Prince Frederick Ford for $49,987.
Sheldon Taylor introduced the recommendation and said three competitive quotes were obtained; staff said the vehicle purchase is fully funded by the Head Start grant. Joyce King, supervisor of state and federal grant programs, explained the van will transport instructional materials, nutritional supplies and program resources across multiple sites and reduce reliance on several smaller vehicles. "This way we can drive 1 vehicle to Costco or to the event with all of the materials in it for the event," King said, describing logistical efficiencies. The board recorded the motion carried 5-0.
