Owner supports rezoning of three East Villa Maria parcels to C2; commission recommends approval

The commission recommended approval of a rezoning request that would convert three parcels on East Villa Maria Road (addresses 710, 724 and 800) from Residential District 7000 to Retail C2.
Benjamin Johnson presented the staff analysis and said the properties are consistent with the comprehensive plan's retail guidance and that staff had received three phone inquiries, including verbal support from the owner of the laundromat at 710 East Villa Maria. Brad Ayers, the owner of the laundromat property and a long-time local owner, described family ownership dating to 1964 and said he supports the rezoning because it simplifies future sales for a buyer.
Following a short public hearing and motion, the commission voted to recommend approval to City Council unanimously.
