Council approved a consent-agenda ordinance authorizing the city manager to execute a professional-services contract with Fries and Nichols, Inc. for a sanitary-sewer evaluation and rehabilitation design work order not to exceed $299,850.
Mayor (S1) introduced the consent item and noted that Umer Khan, the director of capital projects, submitted the proposal. Councilmember Lewis (S5) moved to approve the consent agenda and the motion was seconded; the item passed by unanimous voice/hand vote. Councilmember Gordon (S8) praised staff and the consultant for a thorough, multistep proposal, saying it was well packaged and ready to move forward: "It was a very good, thorough proposal of a multistep long term process," Gordon said.
The contract represents the first work order in a multi-step effort to evaluate and design necessary sewer rehabilitation work. Staff will proceed with the contract execution and begin consultant work under the not-to-exceed amount approved by council.
