City Manager Sharon (S4) provided an update on the police-chief recruitment and gave a short tutorial on a new police public-safety activity dashboard available on the city’s website.
On recruitment, Sharon said the city will accept applications for approximately one month (through the end of March) and that outside recruiters will screen applicants and recommend a slate for initial interviews. "Those applications will go directly to our recruiters... they will sort through and see who meets the minimum qualifications for the position and recommend a slate of folks for us to look over," Sharon said. She added staff’s goal is to narrow the applicant pool to finalists and "to be able to make an offer at the beginning of May." Sharon described stakeholder engagement during the process, including meetings with officers, community open sessions and an online survey that generated more than 200 anonymous responses.
Sharon also walked the council through the police-data dashboard: it is live on the city website, allows date and service-type filters, and shows incident points that users can hover over for details. She encouraged residents to use the dashboard or contact the police department or city manager’s office for help accessing data.
What to expect next: staff will continue to accept applications and plan interviews; the council and community will be kept informed of finalists and planned hiring milestones.
