Residents voice water, traffic, wildlife and cemetery-protection concerns during Lake County planning hearings

Multiple public commenters at the June 3 Lake County Planning and Zoning Board meeting raised concerns that cut across agenda items: water availability and drought impacts, traffic congestion at Monte Vista and State Road 50, wildlife displacement, and the appropriate treatment of cemeteries within conservation calculations.

Cindy Newton (District 4) raised water-conservation and environmental protection issues during discussion of Hartle Hills and during the Rural Conservation Subdivision presentation, urging that cemeteries “should be included within the primary conservation area category and should not count towards open space or density calculations.” Jamie Bridal, a nearby resident, told the board she frequently waits more than 15 minutes to make turns at the Monte Vista and SR 50 intersection and said additional development would worsen traffic and wildlife encounters. Those concerns were heard alongside developer and engineer statements that utility capacity was checked with the City of Clermont and that the Tiger Paw amendment reduces unit counts on the parcels in question.
