Commission approves consent agenda after commissioner asks for clearer motion language

During its April 7 meeting, the Planning & Zoning Commission handled a consent agenda that included a single item listed as 1300SouthFM51. Staff said the item was on the consent agenda and recommended approval; a commissioner raised a procedural concern that the consent documentation did not state what recommendation the commission should make.
"Unfortunately, it doesn't say what recommendation in the consent agenda that you would be making if you just approved the consent agenda," a commissioner said, asking that motions explicitly state whether the commission is recommending approval or denial. The commission then moved to recommend approval of all items on the consent agenda; the Chair later reported the motion as coming from Commissioner Mason Woodruff with a second from Commissioner Melinda Ray, and the motion carried.
Staff announced the next Planning & Zoning meeting is May 5 and that five applications are pending. The meeting adjourned at 05:42.
